building tip of the day:
Promoting Your Website
February 7th, 2008
Promoting your web site can be as
simple or as daunting as you would like it to be. Of course if you would like your site to rank extremely high for common
keywords you will need to invest some serious time and effort. Google is the biggest search engine and most commonly used,
so getting exposure there is relatively important for any exposure. Luckily Google is practically self automated when it
comes to finding new sites. One of the largest factors in getting your site discovered is to have a link to it from another
web site. Thankfully there are many free site directories or link directories that you can apply to that should make getting
a link to your site relatively painless. The more popular sites that are linking to you, the better. As for example if CNN
linked to an article on your web site, this would be viewed much more favorably than if John Q. Public's site about the plight
of hairless ponies (which typically has an audience of three visitors a year) linked to your site. Also make sure that sure
that your websites keywords and meta tags are adequate. Google has multiple tools to assist you in insuring that you are
meeting their standards. Thankfully they are relatively painless. Do a Google search for Google webmaster tools. Submitting
a site map and ensuring your site is linked to by other sites should get you to the bare minimum exposure and ensure people
can indeed find your site "organically". we will provide further search engine optimization and search engine marketing
tips later.
